Mahjong Games - A Brief About Its Origin

Mahjong game is a Chinese game that can be played with the aid of four players. The game has got various modifications in the recent times in an order to make it the best tile matching computer game. Mahjong games are played by means of 136 tiles, which are having the symbols and characters of china. Each player of the game is initially given thirteen tiles, the players need to draw the tiles and discard them one by one. Until, the fourteen draw comes, a player needs to form four groups and a pair. The pair is known as the head and the groups are known as melds. Great Mahjong is another popular game, where you have to click on the tiles that are identical and you have to remove them from the field. A person can click on the tiles, when its right side or left side is completely open. However, these rules differ according to the place where it is played and it depends on the scoring system in a particular region.

Mahjong games has various myths that are associated with its origin, among them one says that this was developed by a Chinese philosopher named Confucius around 500 B.C. The word mahjong signifies sparrow in Chinese. There is a belief that this Chinese philosopher was fond of sparrows and other birds. This game was initially played in China only as the people of other western countries were not having knowledge of it.

Other historians say this came into existence during the period of Ming Dynasty. Another famous theory is that it was developed during the period of Taiping Rebellion who was a Chinese officer, who wanted to keep his army officers engaged by playing this game during the non-duty hours. Another myth is that it was developed by a person named Shanghai in the year 1870. Thus, the origin of the game is not exactly known, but the people who played this found it very interesting.

This was played by the peoples involved in gambling activities. This game was especially preferred by the people of China and other Countries. When the power of Communist Government came into existence then this game was banned in China, as the government realized that it was spreading corruption among the people. Thus the games which spread corruption are not preferred by the government as these are not good for the people living there.
